Okay…so this post was supposed to go live yesterday, but I am honestly trying to just get myself together over here and well…I forgot to schedule it haha, so instead it is showing up today.
Here is my plan for Mondays:
On Mondays I figure I’d go over any updates, what’s new and hot and basically just tell you all the things about my life and what I am finding interesting. Okay, let us begin.
My Life:
So, this past weekend I had my first EVER dinner party.
I mean guys, when I say dinner party, I mean a party. There were 15 of us in total and I have to say…it came off without a hitch. In fact, I might have even enjoyed it??? Say what?!?!
I mean it was kind of fun getting everything ready and then to see so many people I care about in our home just enjoying themselves, was so fun to me.
I think the most stressful part was figuring out what to cook, but once I had that down, it was easy!
Here is what was on the menu:
Appetizers – Charcuterie (if you don’t have a giant cheese board, you should absolutely get one), veggies and dip, mini capreses (string basil, mozarella, and tomato on a tooth pick – I opted for a cuter version with a little knot at the top – and drizzle olive oil an balsamic over it, #done). We have a few other appetizers we like turn to, but I am thinking a blog post may be in order… 🙂
Dinner – Our Costco has Morton’s trip-tip that is already marinated, so we opted to bake that which made it easy because we just stuck it in the oven and let it cook. I made pasta salad with brown rice pasta (always sneaking in the health), bread, fruit salad, and then I made mini salads in these super cute bowls I have so everyone had their own. It was so simple and honestly I just spent the day getting ready for it and it was all cleaned up and done by 10. Not the worst and I will definitely be having more.
Currently Reading:
This week I am a bit behind on my books. I have not started my books for the month of August because I haven’t been reading, so I am currently still reading Digital Minimalism by Cal Newport. I can say, however, this book is changing my life and resulting in a lot less “me” on social channels.
Currently Loving:
Honestly, I am just currently loving doing things I enjoy. I feel like for a long time I have always went with what other people are doing or following the crowd, and I don’t know if it is my age or what, but I feel like I am coming in to who I am and who I want to be and what I like to do. A great example of this is horseback riding. A friend is teaching me and I have honestly wanted to learn how to ride for SO long. I finally have that opportunity and it is so amazing. Sit back and think about what you truly enjoy doing. What hobbies do you have? What gives you fulfillment when you are done. Do more of that.
Currently Trending:
Less social media. I think people are discovering that their lives are being taken away from them. Their relationships, their mental health, and their time is being sucked into apps that truly provide minimal in return. It may be my current book, but regardless I think this is a topic you will see more and more of. It is definitely a flipping of the switch. Realizing that social media is a tool and should be used as such. It is the difference of minimal connection versus direct communication.
Happy Tuesday!
xoxo,
Melissa
